I am currently employed as a part-time Peer Research Associate at the British Columbia Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE) in Vancouver. I have also been a volunteer in the HIV and addictions communities, in various capacities, over the last 6 years.
I am highly active as a peer mentor and peer researcher. I am also an activist, serving my community at the local, provincial and national levels. Also involved with AIDS Saskatoon Peer Training program as of 2017. I am on the Board of All Nations Hope Network and the Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network. I was the Community Liaison Representative on the Scientific Committee for the 28th Annual Canadian Conference on HIV/AIDS Research.
My name is Keith Showers, I’m 37 this summer and I’ve been a PHA since 2006. I currently volunteer at PWA where I’m a few months away from my 10 year anniversary. This will be my 3rd year with the PWA Friends for life bike rally, where participants & crew travel from Toronto to Montreal raising funds and awareness for PWA. I’m a graduate of the OAN’s PLDI leadership training. This past year I’ve been a peer research associate with the Ontario HIV Stigma Index. I’ve also had the honour of joining the torontotozero project, currently part of the Gay Men’s Health Hub Task Force, which is still in the early stages of development! I enjoy learning new things, spending time with friends, playing video games & passionate about helping others.
